Personally, I expected a typical tourist trap. Boy was I wrong...

Mallorca happens to be one of the places that I have been hearing of since I remember. Ever since preschool, at least one person from my entourage owned a house somewhere on the island. Nevertheless, it has never been on top of my bucket list. Reason? I guess the vast amount of tourists give it a slightly bad reputation. Personally, I expected a typical tourist trap. Boy was I wrong...

The Road

Sometimes you just have to let destiny do the work. I was casually checking out flight prices when I randomly typed "Palma" and almost jumped out of my seat when I realised how cheap it was. 3 days later we were on the road.

Travelling during the pandemic? Easier and safer than you'd think. We went through 3 airports during this trip and on every one of them everyone made sure to keep their distance, cover their faces and keep their hands sanitized.to be honest, I felt way safer than in the city center of Warsaw.

Accomodation

Due to the fact that everything was very last minute, we were a little short on money. I took a look at AirBnB. It felt too good to be true. Is it really possible to get a studio sized room in the city center, including a huge terrace, daily cleaning and an amazing view of the church for only 807 pln (€220) per 4 days? Yup. That's how we ended up at Chris's and Michele's apartment. Our flight was quite early in the morning, so we arrived a little before the check-in hour. Luckily, the house was about 30 seco

ndsaway from a wonderful cafe called Cafe Verde, but I'll get to it soon.

Back to the accomodation, we walked through a great antique door to one of these superbly preserved old buildings. Although, I was exhausted and done with wearing a mask, I just couldn't believe how beautiful the place was. The terrace ressembled a tropical garden, or the house from "Frida". The kitchen was spacious, equally devided between all guests and simply perfect for cooking. But our room was what really took me back in time. It resembled a small apartment full of old wooden furniture. And the view, oh my, just picture a small balcony that went out nthe street and an adorable medieval church.

The Culture in Palma

That takes us to my favourite part of any trip - the history and art of course. Every time I tell people how historical and well-preserved Palma is they seem so confused. I do understand due to the touristy reputation of the island, but for me it is just another prove that you shouldn't judge before trying. Indeed, Palma is a very old city. Palma takes its name from Palmeria, the town that was founded by the Romans in 120 BC as part of their expansion across the Mediterranean, the streets look like they remember these times, in the best possible way. You might need a few days to properly discover the entire Royal Palace, but the true pearl in the crown is the catherdral. The cathedral - Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca proudly stands on the coast of Mallorca. Surrounded by palm trees and fosses it probably gives the best view on the Mediterranean sea.

Food

As we learnt from most of the locals and our own experience, if you desire to taste some good and traditional food you should probably make it yourself. The markets and supermarkets stole my heart. All the products simply looked beautiful and displayed with great care. However, if you love trying out restaurants like Faidon I should recommend Cafe Verde at Place da la Merce. The serivce was welcoming and friendly and their spanish food and coffee is porbably the best in town.

Topless Beaching

Ok, let's talk about my favourite subject. It is no secret that Spain is very topless friendly and women are allowed to hang out at the beach without a bra on pretty much everywhere. Nevertheless, as someone who has never experienced anything like this before I decided to develop that topic.

First of all, topless sunbathing has many benefits, not only avoiding these weird tan lines. It actually a 100% change the way you treat your own body. In a society that would rather allow teenagers to swear on social media than let women breastfeed in public loving yourself can be a real challenge, especially your breasts. You have to keep in mind that the ones that we see in media are not average at all. By getting a chance to look at other women's breasts at the beach it hits you that tiddies come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

Second of all, for me it was an insanely freeing moment. After a lifetime of hearing to cover certain parts of your body displaying them without shame feels taking off handcuffs after 20 years. It gives a sense of comfort that no underwear or bathing suit ever will. Swimming is just amazing.

Overall, Palma de Mallorca was one of the best trips I had so far. It made me realise how many hidden gems there are in Europe and how just because something is popular doesn't it is a tourist trap. I left out a lot of what we saw, like how motivated we suddenly got to plan our wedding. So, if you want to see th e rest of our adventures check out my YouTube channel ⬇️⬇️⬇️

About Me

Hello! My name is Flora and it’s my goal to help others become their own version of a „world citizen”. What are my qualifications? I have spent my entire life going to international schools. I have been taught according to the British, French and Polish system. I had teachers from literally every single part of the world, some of them including Mexico, Canada, England, Australia and Algeria. I can honestly admit that in my life I have met at least one person from every country. However, I only started regularly (more than 2 countries a year) travelling at the age of 18. When my fiance moved from Paris to The Netherlands I made it my mission to visit the entire BeNeLux! We’ve done that faster than I estimated, so we started to seriously expand the horizon. Now I’m passionately sharing my adventerous, hoping you’ll be able to learn from my mistakes. Enjoy!
